A Little Design, a Little Technology, a Little Bit of Me.
I’m a designer. But I’ve never much liked keeping my work limited to design alone.

I’m Alptekin Canatar. I’ve been working in this industry as a graphic designer and art director for more than ten years. I graduated from the Graphic Design department at Çukurova University. Today I live in Antalya and work mainly on brand communication, visual identity, digital design and creative processes.
A lot has changed between the day I started and today. The tools we use have changed, work has sped up, expectations have grown. Some things that once took hours now take minutes. But understanding why a good idea is good, finding the right visual language and knowing why you do what you do still matter just as much.
Over my career I’ve had the chance to work with many brands across different industries. Sometimes the job was building an identity from scratch, sometimes improving an existing brand’s communication, and sometimes keeping dozens of jobs moving in the right direction at once at a busy agency pace.
Over time I came to understand that the work isn’t only about producing design. Communicating with people, defining problems correctly, building a shared language within a team and standing behind the decisions you make when it counts are important parts of this profession too.
I’m drawn to what lies outside design, too.
In recent years I’ve been spending more time on AI, automation and creative technology. Not just to try out new tools, but to build solutions that genuinely help in the day-to-day workflow.
I enjoy automating repetitive processes, building small tools and looking for different ways around the problems I run into during production. Some of them work; some take more effort than I expected. But what these experiments teach me can sometimes be worth more than the result itself.
I think AI is seriously changing the world of design. Even so, chasing every new technology means little on its own. For me, the real question is knowing which tool to use when, and keeping the quality of the work intact.
So why does this place exist?
For a long time I’ve been thinking, designing and producing for other people’s brands. Bringing my own work together has usually been the thing I kept pushing back between projects.
That’s partly why alptekvn.com came about.
I don’t want this to be just a portfolio of finished projects. I want it to be a place where I can also share the ideas I’m working on, the things I learn, and my thoughts on design and technology.
The Journal won’t always hold big ideas or long essays. Sometimes I’ll talk about a tool I’ve just discovered, sometimes about a problem I ran into during production, and sometimes about a simple design question I’ve been thinking about.
I don’t think I know everything. In fact, one of the things I love about this work is that it keeps forcing me to learn something new.
In short, this is a personal space where, alongside my work, you can also see how I think and what I’m busy with.
Let’s see what it turns into over time.
